Kuwait & the celebration of the 25th and 26th of February

Kuwait is one of the very first Arabian democratic countries in the Arabian Gulf. Holding strongly to its tradition and families, Kuwait began to grow in all kinds of ways. Kuwait is near the ocean, and people began to pearl dive and explore the areas around it. Kuwait’s people deep in the desert started trading sheep and camels with surrounding countries. Trade with any Arabian country in the Gulf had to come through Kuwait. From trade, and from how close families and people are in Kuwait, the country started to grow fast—way ahead of its time, based on the surrounding countries. Trading pearls, sheep, and camels is now forgotten, now that oil and other natural gases have been found. With wealth, Kuwait now started to grow friendships with surrounding countries and countries they could sail or ride to. It is called “the Switzerland of the gulf” for how friendly and how well-liked it is by other countries. Kuwait never thought about an invasion, especially by a friend. When Iraq invaded Kuwait, it was without warning. Coming by land and ocean, Kuwait was taken by Iraqi forces. And other nationalities living inside Kuwait. The attack was from inside and out. That does not mean that Kuwait did not stand and fight. Kuwaitis remembered their strong traditions and unity quickly. Grabbing whatever they could to try and defend themselves while other countries scrambled to help, Kuwait was not taken for a long time. Arab and Western countries came to their help quick, knowing what Kuwait has to offer and also knowing that Kuwait was the first country of many to be invaded. Kuwait was liberated on the 25th and 26th of February, which is a huge reason why we celebrate on those two days. Many families never got to see loved ones again. But they know if it was not for those loved ones we would not be here today. In conclusion, Kuwait and Kuwaitis are known for their wealth and how friendly they are. On this day (25th) we celebrate our freedom and tomorrow (26th) we remember.
